Carpenteria Salt Marsh: Benefits and Problems

Suprisingly, the Carpenteria Salt Marsh is helpful to us in our everyday life. One of the ways the marsh is useful is that it helps against floods. It soaks up some of the flood water causing the flood level to be lower. Another way it helps us is we eat some of the animals. The salt marsh is a nursery and provides fish and many other animals for us to eat. The last way is it acts as a filter for the ocean. It soaks up substances that could be harmful to the ocean.

The problem facing the Carpenteria Salt  Marsh is pollution from pesticides, litter and human treated water. Toxic substances can flow into the marsh and can kill animals and plants or affect the quality of the water (pictures above). Litter may wash into the wetland from beaches making it not enjoyable to look at and can be harmful to organisms.
